From the stories of our grandparents, we remember that every bride should have a dowry that she makes (sews, embroiders, weaves, knits) with her own hands. Paying tribute to the traditions, we offer the most romantic of us to weave vintage twig for the bride's hair using baroque pearls, natural stones and exotic seeds, mother of pearl, Czech glass and ivory.
We will need:
1. Everything for the sketch: paper, pencil, eraser, ruler.
2. Wire with a cross section of 0.5 mm, approximately 5 meters, in our case - Artistic Wire 24 Ga Gun metal (Bronze).
3. Two kinds of metal beads: 3 pcs. - with a pattern of 6x5 mm, at least 10 pcs. - smooth 4 mm.
4. Carved leaves of nacre - 5 pcs.
5. Carved flowers from coral - 5 pcs.
6. Rauchtopaz - 5 pcs. 8 mm.
7. Black pearls - 6 pcs. 8x6 mm.
8. White pearls, baroque - 8 pcs. 12x8 mm.
9. Pearls small, freshwater - at least 20 pcs. 8x6 mm.
10. Ivory beads (natural color) - at least 10 pcs. from 5 mm to 10 mm.
11. Faceted Fire polished beads from Czech glass, color (transparent, topaz / rose) - 5 pcs.
12. Tools: pliers, wire cutters, round pliers.
STAGE 1
Let's start with a sketch. We draw a life-size twig on a sheet of paper: measure 26 cm (the length of the ornament) and mark the branches with dashes. Please note that our twig is asymmetrical, so the sketch is necessary so that during the work the product does not “float” and something else turns. We recommend checking with the sketch regularly.
STAGE 2
In order to approximately represent what the product will look like, lay out our beads according to the sketch. In the course of the work, it is not necessary to follow the order in which they will be laid out, the main thing is to clearly understand where the large elements will be, and distribute the beads evenly so that they are not monochromatic or, for example, of the same size only on one branch.
Do not forget about the symbolism that is present in wedding decorations, attire, rites, regardless of the epoch and time of year.
Whatever image you choose: a Roman goddess, a forest nymph, a blue-blooded aristocrat or a touching village, your natural femininity will always be the basis. It will emphasize white coral and rauchtopaz. As our ancestors believed, these are strong amulets against any negative, including the evil eye (the same function, by the way, is attributed to the veil of the bride). Pearls - a symbol of happy relationships - an essential attribute of marriage in the XIX century. In this case, it is believed that black Pearlensures its owner longevity, prosperity and wisdom.
STAGE 3
We open the main secret of this master class - the wire does not need to be cut! Otherwise, your sprig will consist of pieces fastened together and look sloppy. Our task is to make a twig without a single break. Therefore, we take the wire directly on the coil and begin to put beads on it from the sketch in reverse order. That is, those elements that we will first be woven into the twig should be the last to get on the wire.
STAGE 4
When all the beads and elements are worn on the wire, move them about 50 cm from the beginning of the wire. This will be our leading "thread", which will serve as the central branch. From it according to the sketch all minor branches will go.
Take the first bead, bend the wire and hold the two ends of the wire with your fingers or pliers at a distance of about 2 cm. Now we begin to rotate the bead around its axis. The wire is twisted exactly to the point where you hold it. It is important not to overdo it: if you twist it too tightly, the wire will become brittle. On the other hand, under-tightening is bad: the beads will dangle and the product will look untidy.
We take the second bead and retreat from the place of twisting by 1.5 cm, repeat the whole procedure to the point where the two branches converge. Now we make 2-3 turns of the two wires of the wire “empty”, retreating from the point of connection of the first branches. After that, we take the third bead and repeat everything we did with the second one. We do the same with the fourth bead.
STEP 5
According to our scheme, after the fourth bead, it is necessary to make a small indent in order to single out large elements - a leaf from carved nacre and a heart made from seeds of a palm Buri. Therefore, we twist the threads of the wire "idle" about 2 cm, and then proceed to twist the twigs with large elements.
Do not forget to check with the sketch. According to our sketch, there comes a moment for the first major branching. We take a bead that will be on the top of a new branch (we have this rauchtop), and move it away from the base of an already woven branch about 6 cm, that is, the length of the new branch. Then we begin to twist as in step 4 until such time as we return to the point where the first branch converges with the second.
We continue to go on the sketch. Do not forget that we have a two-dimensional sketch, and the three-dimensional decoration, respectively, the twigs should not lie flat, show imagination and gently flatten them in different directions, then the product will acquire volume.
STAGE 6
We will complete the twig, neatly cutting the wire. We will gently tuck the ends and test it with our fingers several times so that there are no sharp edges and the bride doesn’t pricked. If the tips remain, continue to hide them. You can gently walk the file, but be careful not to strip the coating from the wire.
STEP 7
Try on a sprig. We did not specifically attach it to the comb or the hairpin, so that the bride would have a choice on how to use the resulting accessory-transformer. This is another tribute to the tradition - the multifunctional decoration. Brides of the late XIX - early XX centuries such branches could be used both as a tiara, and as a brooch, and as a bracelet, and even as a necklace. And rightly so - why limit your imagination on the most joyful day of your life ?!
