Your hair dryer may look different from the example shown here, but the principle of operation is the same for all manual electric hair dryers. The fan, driven by an electric motor, draws air through the air intake with the grill and drives it through a heating element - a wire wound on a heat-resistant holder. Some models are equipped with a removable filter that does not allow hair and similar lint inside the case through the air intake.

  9. Pressure plate
  10. Contact block

Many hair dryers have combined switches that not only turn the device on and off, but also allow you to use two or three thermal modes. Some hair dryers have a cold air mode when the heater is turned off and only the fan is running.

A thermostat - here a thermal protection switch is meant - protects the heating element from overheating. The switch automatically turns off the heating element if the air flow through it is too small to successfully extract heat from the element. The thermal protection switch turns on again, as a rule, independently, so you should find out what made it work before resuming use of the hair dryer - after cooling it usually starts working as if nothing had happened. Since such a “recovery” can leave a hair dryer in a dangerous state, later models can be equipped with fuses that will not allow the device to turn on even after it cools.

The body bowls are always connected using recessed screws. For some of them or for all, you may need special screwdrivers or modified flat screwdrivers. If the screws are of different lengths, mark them to facilitate subsequent assembly. If, after unscrewing the screws, the housing does not easily split into two bowls, look for hidden fasteners. You may have to gently squeeze the edges of the case to see if the plastic latches molded together with the case do not connect its parts - but take care so that the case does not break and crack, which will make the device unsafe in operation.

After removing the mounting screws, place the dryer on the table and carefully separate the parts of the body so that you can remember the location of the internal parts and how they fit into the body. If necessary, draw a diagram. As with all double-insulated electrical appliances, it is important to return all elements, including the wires, to their original condition before assembly.

Cord care

Inspect the cord regularly for damage to the insulation. Carefully check the absence of breaks in the places where the cord enters the plug in the hair dryer body. Damaged cord shorten or replace.

Fig. five Wearing a hair dryer by the cord is a bad habit.

Blocked air intake

The barrier in the air intake may not be visible from the outside, so remove the plug from the wall outlet and disassemble the device to remove hair, fluff, etc., collected behind the air intake grille. Sweep the dust and fluff with a soft brush.

If your hair dryer has a removable filter, unscrew the back section of the case, remove the filter and use a soft brush to clean the collected dust. Be careful not to damage the fine filter.

Fig. eight Sweep dust and lint from the heating element.

Check if the fan rotates freely. If not, remove the fan and remove what interferes. Ensure the integrity of the internal wiring, including heat-resistant insulation - and assemble the device.

No heating

The fan rotates, but only cold air goes.

  1. Heated mode disabled

Check if air heating is on.

  1. Breakage of internal wiring

After removing the plug from the outlet, inspect the wires to make sure the heating element is connected. If the connections are broken by soldering, let the specialist restore them - they must withstand the current and temperature in the device.

  1. Faulty heating element

A visual inspection can establish a break in the spiral heating element. If it seems to be a whole, you can check and replace it with a specialist - but buying a new hair dryer may be more cost-effective.

Fig. eleven Inspect heating element for breakage detection.

  1. Faulty thermostat or blown fuse

If there is access to the thermal protection switch or fuse (they are usually located within the heating element), then they can be checked for an open circuit with a tester. These parts are cheap enough to replace. However, in some models, the thermal protector switch or fuse only changes with the heating element, which may not be economically feasible.

Fig. 12 Touch the test leads to the two ends of the thermal protection switch.

Something is stopping the fan

Check whether the hairs that may inhibit its rotation have not been wrapped around the fan shaft. Before removing the fan, mark its position on the shaft to return it to the same position.

If something interferes with the fan, it is sometimes difficult to remove. This can usually be done by carefully hooking it onto the shaft with a screwdriver rod, like a lever - but be careful not to damage the fan itself and other parts of the dryer, which can make the device unsafe to operate.

Remove any hair that has wound onto the shaft behind the fan.

Install the fan and make sure that it rotates freely.

Check that all internal wiring is intact and that all parts are in their original position, then assemble the case.

Break in the cord

This is a common malfunction. It makes sense to check the condition of the outer insulation of the cord each time before turning on the hair dryer, making sure that the cord is securely fixed by the clamping bar inside the plug. To check the cord for a break, call it. If possible, replace the damaged cord.

Design and diagnostics

A hair dryer is a device that is used for drying and styling hair. It consists of the following structural elements:

  1. Engine,
  2. TEN - heating detail,
  3. Fan,
  4. Thermal protection
  5. Power cable,
  6. Regulators (fan speed, temperature, etc.).

The principle of operation of a domestic dryer is based on a low-voltage collector motor operating on direct current. To enable the device to turn on, its design uses a special lowering spiral, which contributes to the voltage drop to the required level. It is installed inside the heater. With the help of a diode bridge, the voltage is rectified. The engine has a steel shaft on which a fan is mounted (in most cases, it is made of plastic, although now there are professional models with metal blades). A fan can consist of two, three or even four blades.

Photo - hairdryer design

The heating element of the electric hair dryer is presented in the form of a spiral with nichrome wire. It is wound on a fireproof base, which increases safety when using the device. When you turn on the network, the spiral begins to heat up, and the fan installed behind it blows warm air from the body of the dryer. To protect against overheating, a temperature controller is used (adjustable during operation) and a thermostat. In addition, the “cold wind” or “cool” button is installed in any hair dryer - when it is pressed, the spiral stops heating, only the engine and the fan remain working, respectively, cold air is blowing from the nose.

Photo - filter

It should be noted that the thermostat is not installed in all technology. It is designed to control the heating of the block with nichrome during long-term operation of the device. For example, this may be a stationary professional hair dryer (used in hairdressing). When the coil is heated to the maximum allowable temperature, the thermostat turns off the power. After cooling, the contacts are switched back.

Typical malfunctions of the Bosch LCD (Bosch), Valera, Skil, Vitek, Scarlett (Scarlet) and others hairdryer:

  1. It smells burnt. The smell can come from the spiral, which fell on the hair as a result of careless handling, or during the combustion of internal parts of the scheme,
  2. Hair dryer is not included. The reason may be a breakdown of the engine, broken power cord, lack of voltage in the network,
  3. Performance has declined. The power of the device depends on the cleanliness of the filter installed on the back of the case. If it is clogged, the device will start to work with less efficiency,
  4. The fan rotates very slowly. Most likely, it just hinders something,
  5. Fen Braun (Brown), Philips (Philips) or Rowenta (Roventa) is not heated. There are several reasons why this happens: the cold air button is blocked, the spiral has broken, the circuit is damaged, the thermostat does not work.

Before starting the repair, you need to know how to disassemble the Parlux, Saturn, Moser or Jaguar hair dryer yourself. There is nothing complicated in this, you just need an instruction and a screwdriver:

  1. On the case there are two bolts on the back side. They need to unscrew and carefully remove. In some cases, more of them, make sure that all the mounts are removed,
  2. In parallel, you can also remove the cover from the top panel - under it there is a fan. It is most often simply pressed to the body, so it goes without problems if you pry it with a screwdriver,
  3. Under the top panel of the case there is a mode switch and a cold air button. The panel has several wires. Which are connected to the circuit contacts. For further disassembly they will need to be removed,
  4. Now you can take out the spiral from the head of the hair dryer. It is necessary to act carefully, otherwise it can break, take out only after you make sure that you removed all the fasteners,
  5. Under the helix, respectively, is the motor. It most often does not need to get, because almost all the faults will be noticeable immediately at the point of connection of the engine to the contacts of the heating element. The exception is the need to replace the part, then the repair is made overhaul.

Consider how to make an independent repair hairdryer Babyliss, Rowenta Brush Activ, Bosh, Remington and others at home. The first step is to clean the fan and the motor shaft from hair. They are going there a lot, even after several months of intensive use. To do this, remove the back top panel and cut the hair, then simply remove it with tweezers or fingers. In no case should the parts be wiped with a damp cloth - this will damage the contacts. This is done in any case, regardless of the problem.

Photo - fan

If it smells burnt, then you need to repair the spiral and filter. They can be cleaned with a dry soft brush. Simply wipe the teeth out of the heater and clean the filter. Make sure that the contacts are not broken in the cleaning process.

Photo - Cleaning

If the hair dryer does not turn on, then immediately need to check the power cable. Most often, it breaks at the base, because during operation, the dryer rotates in different directions many times along its axis. If everything is fine with it, then look at the contacts on the spiral. They can be 2, 3 or 4. When the device falls or hits, they are sometimes unsoldered, which is why the engine power supply is cut off.

When the breakdown is related to the fan, then repairing the device is easy. The first step is to check whether the blades are intact. Of course, their performance does not change much from their state, but if cracks or notches are noticed, it is better to immediately change the propeller. After that, view the shaft. Sometimes small parts or other debris that block the shaft fall into the dryer's nose, and it starts spinning slowly.

Now let's discuss the reasons for when a professional Coifin, Steinel or Lukey hairdryer does not heat the spiral of dry warm air. As we said, there may be several reasons. For example, stuck cold air button. The principle of its operation is the following: when the button is pressed, the contacts inside the case open, as a result of which the heating coil stops working. If it is open all the time, then the spiral simply cannot begin to heat. If the problem is not in the button itself, but in the contact, then it is necessary to solder it yourself.

The cause of breakage can be covered in a broken spiral, its repair is a little more difficult to carry out than cleaning. In some models, it is made of poor-quality material, which is easily broken by impact. If based on some missing teeth or visible cracks - it is replaced.

THE MAIN THING IS SAFETY

  1. Before resuming use of the hair dryer, check it by connecting it to a circuit protected by a circuit breaker with RCD. Then turn on the device, and if the RCD operates, then check the hairdryer with a qualified technician.
  2. Do not use the hair dryer with a cracked housing.
  3. In no case do not include the hair dryer in the extension cord to use it in the bathroom.
  4. Do not pull the cord in an attempt to reach the mirror.
  5. Make sure that the cord is properly plugged and that the fuse is rated.

Good luck with the repair!

We do an inspection and carry out repairs hair dryer with their own hands

Before starting to inspect the device, you must disconnect the dryer from the network. When working with any electrical device, you must strictly follow all safety rules. We are now counting on a reader who did not receive a technical education, but simply ran into a problem and wants to solve it without extra costs and wasted time. Before you start inspecting the hair dryer itself, check the condition of the outlet by plugging in some other device or a desk lamp. If everything is in order, and the outlet is working, go to the hair dryer.

The cord can act up and have a professional hair dryer Philips

This is the first thing we pay attention to and, first of all, we check its integrity. Often the cause of the breakdown is the sharp teeth of a pet. Inspect both the cord itself and the plug. If there are no problems from the outside, disassemble the hair dryer, and look inside.

Contacts or soldering could loosen and move away. We act as a problem is detected: we twist or solder, we connect the broken ends of the wire and we wrap it with tape. Best if you replace the cord. You can apply a whole cord from another device.

Take care of the cord, it often bends over

Switches

The problem may be hiding in the breaker switch. In this case, the circuit can be closed without a toggle switch until you find a suitable replacement.

In this case, the hairdryer will start working as soon as you plug the plug into the outlet. Moreover, opening the case, carefully examine the inside for the presence of carbon deposits or melts. The charred parts need to be replaced and the carbon removed with an eraser, then wipe it off with alcohol.

Device hairdryer Rowenta CV 4030.

To see the internal structure of a domestic hairdryer, let us examine its typical representative - Rowenta CV 4030. This model is equipped with a fan based on a low-voltage motor, the heating element consists of one downward spiral and two heating ones. The dryer has three operating modes, in the first mode the fan speed is lower than the other two. The schematic diagram of this hair dryer is presented below.

In the first position of the switch SW1 mains power through the plug XP1filter C1R1protective elements F1, F2diode Vd5 (necessary for cutting off one half-wave of alternating voltage) is fed to the downward spiral H1the electric motor feeds through it M1. Diodes VD1-VD4 necessary for straightening a low helix H1 AC voltage. Inductors L1, L2 and capacitors C2, C3 They are used to reduce the noise arising from the operation of the brush motor. Through diode Vd5 power is also supplied to the heating coil H2.

When translating a switch SW2 to position 2, diode Vd5 short-circuited and out of the game. The engine starts to work at maximum speed, spiral H2 heats up more. The third position of the slider switch SW2 corresponds to the maximum power consumption mode, when parallel to the spiral H2 spiral connects H3. In this position, the outgoing air temperature is the highest. The "cool" button is included in the gap of both heating coils, when pressed, only the electric motor through the coil is turned on H1, helix H2 and H3 de-energized.

Brief construction

A hairdryer consists of a motor, a fan, heating elements, an electrical circuit that forces the elements to work in concert. Depending on the number of modes, the manufacturer, the element base, the appearance, the composition of the switches are different. But nothing harder than a semiconductor thyristor, inside will not. Therefore, we will carry out home repair hair dryers with their own hands.

The case is kept on screws. Heads are often non-standard sample. This is a plus sign, asterisk, pitchfork. Therefore, first of all, before fixing the dryer, we will take care of a tool that can cope with such a task. Fortunately, a set of bits worth 600 rubles today.

Sometimes the casement doors are additionally fastened together with special snaps. This is a separate problem: experienced craftsmen often break plastic, desperate to cope with civilized methods. There are no intricacies, invent hidden screws hidden under stickers, plastic inserts, removable lids of regulators. The fixture is dummy. No useful features.

The hair dryer motor is powered by a direct current of 12, 24, 36 V. A diode bridge is used to rectify the mains voltage, in cheap models a single diode. Power supply harmonics are filtered by a capacitor connected in parallel with the motor windings or as part of a more complex filter. Inductances due to the exorbitant mass in hair dryers are rarely used. Therefore, knowledge of the principles of smoothing pulsations RC-chains is enough to cope with the construction of the concept of the repaired dryer. Sometimes the filter element uses a single helix (inductance).

The switch of the hairdryer simultaneously closes the circuit through which the spirals will feed, starts the motor. Further intervention schematics are defined by complexity:

  • only rotation speed or temperature is regulated,
  • possibility to choose heating and air flow separately.

In most models of hairdryers, there is parallel protection against the inclusion of heaters with an inactive motor. Saves the helix.

Optionally available thermostat in the form of special resistance or other sensitive element. We describe the occurring breakdowns of the faithful helpers of the beautiful half of humanity.

Typical inspection procedure

If the device is devoid of signs of life, it is unstable, inspection begins with the power circuit. Below is a schematic description of the repair of Rowenta hairdryers.

Attention! The described types of work require skills in handling electrical appliances. The authors disclaim responsibility for damage to health, property arising from attempts to follow the above recommendations for the repair of hair dryers.

Inspection of the power wire begins with a socket. There is part of the fault: there is no voltage - the hair dryer does not work. If the voltage in the outlet is present, the inspection of the cord begins with the point of entry into the case, go towards the plug. Works are performed on de-energized device. A visual search is conducted for fractures and irregular formations - burns, insulation damage, fractures.

Then the body of the hair dryer is disassembled. Inside you have a chance to see the options of electrical resistance:

  1. A pair of plug contacts.
  2. Soldering.
  3. The wiring is sealed in plastic caps.

Permanent connection

The last element of the list characterizes a nonseparable connection, therefore, the case for testing is complex. Skillful hands, or rather, clever heads, Ukrainian brothers in mind are advised to use an ordinary needle to repair a hair dryer. Immediately catch the course of thought the next paragraph will be skipped, directly start testing.

Repair of the hair dryer with your own hands begins with a dialing wiring. A Chinese tester, a light bulb, an indicator will do. A needle is attached to one terminal, and then stuck into the power supply in the area of the cap through the insulation to copper. The second terminal feels the legs of the plug. The call passes for both veins. When repairing a hairdryer, it is not necessary to make more than 1 puncture on the core (some will try to look also for the place of the cliff), since the nature of the operation involves the ingress of moisture from wet hair.

What's inside the hair dryer?

Repair of any hair dryer begins, with its full or partial disassembly, but before we proceed to this process, let's find the answer to the above question.

Absolutely any hair dryer can be divided into two main elements - the heating element and the electric motor. The heating element is usually nichrome spiral, it heats the air. A DC motor creates a warm directional air flow.

Electric motors in hair dryers are 12, 24 and 36 Volt, but sometimes 220 Volt electric motors are found in very cheap Chinese models. A propeller is attached to the motor rotor, which provides for the removal of warm air from the spiral. The power of the hair dryer varies depending on the thickness of the spiral and the power of the electric motor.

Consider the design of the dryer in more detail:

1 - diffuser nozzle, 2 - case, 3 - air duct, 4 - knob, 5 - cord twist fuse, 6 - Cold air button, 7 - air flow temperature switch, 8 - air flow speed switch, 9 - Turbo mode button - maximum air flow, 10 - loop for hanging the hair dryer.

Is the spiral broken? Repair Instructions

With frequent overheating of the device, breakage of the spiral can become a problem of breakage. Most often, it just burns out. Upon careful inspection, you can immediately see the reason. After detecting the breakthrough of the spiral, you can make a replacement by buying a similar option. Allowed and repair the spiral. You can do this:

It is worth noting that the replacement of the ceramic element is usually not cheap, so if you are not sure of the correctness of your actions, take the new element and the hairdryer to the master.

Motor fails at hair styling

This is the most difficult option in this case, since for repairing the engine you need certain knowledge and skills. After inspecting the motor, we can conclude: the cause of failure in it or not.

If you turn on the hair dryer, you notice a strong crash or spark, then this is the fault of the motor. After inspecting the housing, winding and brushes, take the motor to the workshop or find the same new one and replace it. After replacement, we recommend lubricating the parts so that the movements are performed smoothly, without friction.

Heating controller

This item protects the dryer from overheating. Having broken, he does not allow the hair dryer to switch on at all. In this case, you can either replace the broken part, or remove the regulator from the circuit, and make a closed circuit. Turning on the hair dryer in the outlet, you will see whether the actions or the problem helped in another.

Heaped-up models are now in fashion, but they have more damage as well.

User Tips

Despite the fact that we have reviewed almost all possible failures, there are cases when all of the above is checked, and the hair dryer still does not work. In such cases, it is better to contact the master. Moreover, hair dryers used by hairdressers, that is, professional lines, have a complex structure, and repairing such models is much more difficult. Simple and inexpensive options can be disposable, and can not be repaired.

Nevertheless, we hope that the tips will help you cope with the problem and such a misfortune as a broken hair dryer will not spoil your mood.

Contact area

To ring the wire, having visually distinct docking points before your eyes, can even a child. Having found damages, it is recommended to buy a new cord with a plug of a non-separable design. The likelihood of moisture imposes restrictions on the choice of insulation of conductive parts used to repair the dryer.

Cases are common: a first glance reveals the place where the cord entry into the case is damaged. Discharges, soot, black insulation indicate the location of the fault.

At the junction with the body of the hair dryer sheltered vulnerable point of wiring. The hostess takes a delicate device by the cord, shakes it from side to side, winds the cable on the handle. A vein with a crack sparkles, the insulation heats, burns, the copper melts. This is the mechanism of damage to copper wires.

Switch and switch

When renewing it is useful to short the switch, check: the dryer will change in response to a simple step, the behavior will be radically. There are three-position switches, each position in the short-circuited state is checked separately. Remember, draw the initial layout of the wires before repairing the dryer.

Checking the speed switches, temperature uses a similar scheme.

Identified during the restoration of the hair dryer defective item inspect. Nagar is cleaned with a needle file, sandpaper, eraser. Contacts are wiped with alcohol. Faulty components are replaced by equivalents. The radical method is to close the power button for a while while searching for suitable components.

Fan

Relatively often, the fan closes the air duct. If necessary, remove the filter and clean it thoroughly. Use a soft brush to remove dust from the crevices.

The lack of rotation of the blades or low revolutions are often observed when the hair is wound on the motor axis. The propeller must be carefully removed from the shaft, avoiding unnecessary efforts and distortions in every way. After that, foreign objects are removed.

The hair dryer heating elements are usually several. Visually, they should all look uniform. Verify this when correcting the hair dryer by opening the case. Detected breaks are eliminated by twisting the ends, soldering and tinning. You can also get thin copper tubes and compress the ends of the broken spiral inside.

Defects of heating elements during repair are observed visually. A close inspection will tell you how to fix the hairdryer. Effective replacement of spirals with similar purchased or home-made products of nichrome wire.

The electric motor of the dryer can be powered both with direct current and alternating current. If the diode bridge burned out, the windings are damaged, the normal functioning is disturbed. A terrible crash and sparks when turned on indicate a motor malfunction.

The windings of the engine are soldered when repairing the dryer from the electrical circuit. For each wire, find a pair that rings. The findings are connected in threes, none should hang in the air. Replacing the winding during the repair of a hairdryer is carried out only in the workshop. However, folk craftsmen shake no worse than machines. Those who want to try.

If the windings are in good condition, the brushes are inspected, the copper surface under them is cleaned, the fit density is estimated.

The axis should rotate freely. When repairing a hair dryer, it doesn’t hurt to lubricate the rubbing surfaces, manually rub in problem areas.

Chip

The substrate of the getinaks sometimes cracks, breaking the track. Zaludite damaged area, sparsely cover with solder.

The damaged capacitors swell a little. The upper face of the cylinder contains shallow cuts, when the product breaks, the sidewall inflates, arching out. Replace such a capacitor first, finding a characteristic defect.

Burnt resistors darken. Some retain their functionality, it is desirable to replace such a radio element.

Some hair dryers are self-regulated. The effect is achieved using a resistive divider, one arm of which is an element that reacts to temperature. Further actions are determined by the parameter control implementation scheme. We will recommend:

  • eliminate the sensor at all, breaking the circuit, try the reaction of the device,
  • short-circuit after this wire, turn on, see what happens.

There is a great chance of failure if the device is trained to respond only to a fixed resistance value. It remains to search the schematic diagram on the Internet or draw it yourself.

Final tips

Repair of professional hair dryers is more complex. Elements of the structure are often complemented by smooth controls and additional options like the Care button. The spirals are made of special alloys that create negative ions when heated, which have a beneficial effect on the hair. The technique remains the same:

  • cord,
  • switches and buttons
  • dusting
  • spirals
  • motor,
  • visual inspection of capacitors, resistors.

Before repairing, it is advisable to get a schematic diagram.

Industrial models are not much different from household. But dry hair is not recommended. Such products differ in increased resistance to dust, shock, vibration, humidity, and other climatic factors. Home restoration of industrial hair dryers will not end well.

Electronic devices used in household models are not suitable for use in harsh environments. Requirements for wires, power cord, motor and coils.

How is the apparatus

Any hairdryer has an impeller motor and a heater. The impeller sucks air from one side of the dryer, after which it blows on the heater and comes out hot on the other side. Also, the hairdryer has a mode switch and elements to protect the heater from overheating.

In domestic hairdryers, the fan is assembled on a collector motor of direct current, rated for 12, 18, 24 or 36 volts (sometimes there are motors that operate on alternating voltage of 220 volts). A separate spiral is used to power the motor. A constant voltage is obtained from a diode bridge mounted on the terminals of an electric motor.

The heater of the hair dryer is a frame assembled from non-combustible and non-conductive plates, on which a nichrome spiral is wound. The spiral consists of several sections, depending on how many modes of operation has a hair dryer.

This is how it looks like:

A hot heater must be constantly cooled by the passing air flow. If the spiral overheats, it may burn out or a fire may occur. Therefore, the dryer is designed to automatically shut off when overheated. For this, a thermostat is used. This is a pair of normally closed contacts placed on a bimetallic plate. The thermostat is located on the heater closer to the outlet of the dryer and is constantly blown with hot air.If the air temperature exceeds the permissible, the bimetallic plate opens the contacts and the heating stops. After a few minutes, the thermostat cools down and closes the circuit again.

Sometimes a thermal fuse is also used as additional protection. It is a one-time and, if a certain temperature is exceeded, it burns out, after which it must be changed.

To better understand the principle of the hair dryer, you can watch these two videos (see the first video from the 6th minute):

Schematic diagram

The scheme of most household hair dryers is close to the above. Consider it in more detail. The heater consists of three spirals: H1, H2 and H3. Through the helix H1 is supplied power to the engine, the helix H2 and H3 serve only for heating. In this case, the dryer has three modes of operation. In the upper position of the SW1 circuit is de-energized. In the> position, the hairdryer operates at minimum power: power is supplied through the VD5 diode, which cuts off one half-wave of alternating voltage, only one heating coil H2 is switched on (not at full power), the motor rotates at low revs. In the> position, the dryer operates at medium power: the VD5 diode is shorted, both half-waves of alternating voltage enter the circuit, the H2 coil is operating at full power, the motor rotates at nominal speed. In the> position, the dryer operates at the highest possible power, as the helix H3 is connected. When the button is pressed, the heating spirals H2, H3 are turned off, and the motor continues to work. Diodes VD1-VD4 are a full-wave rectifier. Inductance coils L1, L2 and capacitors C2, C3 reduce the level of interference that inevitably occurs when the collector motor is operating. F1, F2 is a thermal fuse and thermostat.

How to disassemble a hair dryer

Attention! Before disassembling, unplug the hairdryer from the outlet!

Parts of the hair dryer body are attached to each other with screws (screws) and special clips. Screw heads often have a non-standard shape: asterisk, plus sign, forks. Therefore, you may need the appropriate bits for a screwdriver. The latches, in turn, are sometimes very difficult to detach and even experienced craftsmen sometimes break them off. Sometimes the grooves under the mounting screws are covered with stickers, plastic covers, or plastic plugs. The plugs are removed with a sharp object, such as a knife or needle. At the same time there is a high probability to wrinkle the case and plugs a little. True, the hair dryer from this work will not become worse. Sometimes the body halves are glued together. In this case, you have to cut them with a knife or a scalpel, and after repair, glue them together (for example, with epoxy glue).

An example of disassembling a hairdryer you can see in this video:

Chases the cold air

Possible malfunctions: burned out spiral

As a rule, the break is visible to the naked eye, even without a multimeter. There are several ways to repair a helix:

  1. You can put the broken ends of the helix into a thin brass or copper tubing and compress it with pliers.
  2. The spiral rests on a frame of heat-resistant, non-conductive plates. In such a plate, carefully make a round hole with a diameter of about 2-3 millimeters with a sharp object, insert a short bolt with a washer into it, fill the broken ends of the helix under the washer and tighten.
  3. Throw one dangling end on the other.
  4. Ragged ends can be simply twisted together. It should be noted that the third and fourth methods are less reliable than the first two. The fact is that when the dangling ends are connected with a dash and a twist, the repaired part of the helix has an increased resistance and therefore overheats and quickly burns out in the same place.
  5. Disassemble the hairdryer donor (of course, if you have one) and take it from there.
  6. (not for everyone): you can wind the spiral yourself. Where to get nichrome? For example, order in China.
  7. You can buy a ready-made spiral. To find the one you need, type in your browser’s search box>. Spirals come in different capacities and are sold in bags of several pieces.

You can see examples of repair of the spiral in these videos:

Video: repair of Viconte VC-372 hair dryer (burned out spiral)

Video: where can I buy nichrome

Does not turn on, i.e. it does not heat up and the fan does not turn

Possible malfunctions: no power applied, i.e. a problem with the power cable

First, carefully review the cable from the power plug to the case: there is no obvious damage. If there is, remove the damaged area and solder the cable ends. Perhaps this is all a fault and the hair dryer will work. An example of cable repair is in the above video: How to disassemble and repair hairdryer Scarlet.

Impeller does not spin or spin at low revs

Possible malfunctions: the engine is faulty or hair has been wound around its shaft.

If the hair is wound on the axis of the electric motor, in order to remove them, you will have to dismantle the impeller. You will also need to remove the impeller if you are going to lubricate the motor shaft or replace it. How to do this, you can see in these two videos:

Video: remove the impeller from the dryer

Video: how to remove the fan from the motor of the dryer

Also, in some cases, you can grasp the base of the impeller with your fingers and, pulling, remove it.

Regarding the motor check, the author believes that the best way - in terms of safety - is to dismantle the motor and connect it to a suitable power supply with short circuit protection. If the motor does not rotate, you need to check the integrity of the windings with a multimeter. When the winding breaks, you will have to buy a new engine (although you can rewind the old one, but it probably makes sense only as entertainment). If the engine is highly sparking, you will also have to buy a new one. Rubbing with alcohol in this case, if it helps, then not for long. One of the options where you can buy a new engine: order in China (look for>).

Hair dryers with air ionization function and infrared devices

Ionized hair dryers - when this mode is turned on, many negative ions are emitted, neutralizing the positive charge on the hair, which makes them smooth and not overdry. To create negative ions, a special module is used, placed in the handle of the dryer. The wire coming out of this module is located in the area of the heater. The air is ionized in contact with this conductor.

To diagnose the health of the ionization module without special devices is possible by indirect signs. If you no longer feel the difference when the ionization module is turned on and off - and you have verified that the module is supplied with normal supply voltage - therefore, the module is faulty. Next, you need to find a module for the desired voltage and suitable size. Look again in China.
